Tree Felling on Former Shelton Sports Site
The birds are singing their hearts out at the Alexandra Avenue site in Chelsham. By contrast, they are being disturbed by tree felling on the former Shelton Sports site, behind 267 Hillbury Road. The developers have decided to pre-empt the grant of the application, and the condition that they should only fell trees after a new tree report has been prepared, in order that they can ‘get cracking’ on another job on the site and some of the trees are in the way. Sadly, yesterday was day 2 of tree felling during the bird nesting season, despite at least one nest with eggs being found on day 1. As if our wildlife isn’t struggling enough! A number of residents have written to TDC to complain, but despite that, we still expect at least one more day of felling.
We are still keeping an eye on the Farleigh Meadows and Chelsham Road planning applications, where we expect new information to be submitted.
‘Grey Belt’ Addendum for Chelsham Road
The developer for Chelsham Road, Welbeck, have submitted an ‘addendum’, where they state that the development site is ‘Grey Belt’ (see previous post for description). Chelsham and Farleigh Parish Council hired a planning expert to counteract this claim, and SWGB have also submitted further comments, since we both feel that this land is still Green Belt and not Grey. Warlingham Parish Council have so far not made any further comments about ‘Grey Belt’, despite being asked by residents.
Greenacres Sports Club
In good news – Greenacres Sports Club (next to John Fisher) is no longer on the cards for redevelopment, having previously been in the, now withdrawn, local plan. The current leaseholders will continue running the sports club, with the desire to expand their facilities.
