MEETING WITH MP CLAIRE COUTINHO 12TH APRIL 2024

SWGB had a positive meeting with Claire Coutinho MP for East Surrey, who is very much aware of the Green Belt threats in Warlingham.

Topics covered were:

  • New Local Plan
  • Allocated Warlingham sites from the withdrawn Local Plan
  • Villagers concerns on lack of Infrastructure
  • Maintenance Contracts on new builds also known as ‘fleecehold’
  • Affordable Homes

Claire brought up the subject of Neighbourhood Plans and queried why Warlingham was one of the few Parishes in Tandridge not to have one. SWGB commented that some Parish Councillors were actively against one but we agreed that Warlingham needs a Neighbourhood Plan (NP), which is a document that sets out planning policies for your area and can:

  • Protect local green spaces;
  • Encourage better designed places;
  • Bring forward housing that genuinely meets local needs

SWGB agreed to raise the need for a NP with Warlingham Parish Council after the election. An NP will need volunteers, but SWGB will do a more detailed post about NPs in the future and what you can do to get involved.
